Frankenstein Sandwich Cookies
Ok kids, don't be scared of these cookies! These frightening Frankies are much less scary when they're in your belly! What inspired this recipe is an art project I did with my daughter for Halloween. We made Frankenstein art out of her footprint, which now hangs on my refrigerator. That little footprint is what brought us here to this ghoulish delight!
Ingredients:
-Saltine crackers
-Chocolate hazelnut spread (like Nutella)
-Candy melts in green, yellow and milk chocolate (these can be found in the baking and party aisle of craft stores)
Tools:
-Ziplock sandwich baggie or disposable pastry bag.
Step#1
Start by spreading your hazelnut spread onto your crackers and create a sandwich with a second cracker on top. Refrigerate for one hour.
Step#2
Melt your GREEN candy melts in the microwave in a ceramic or glass bowl (will be hot, so have an adult help you or use oven mitts!) Melt for 30 seconds, stir, and repeat process until it is completely melted.
Take cracker sandwiches out of the refrigerator. With a spoon, dip cracker sandwich in the green candy melts until it is completely coated. Use back of spoon to get off any goopy excess. Once you are finished coating all of the cracker sandwiches, put them back in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes, or until the green coating is hard.
Step#3
Melt chocolate flavored candy melt in the same process you melted the green. Once it is completely melted, use either a ziplock sandwich baggie or a disposable pastry bag and fill it with melted chocolate. Then cut a teeny-tiny hole in the corner of the bag where the chocolate will come out.
Now, BE CREATIVE!!! It's just like art class at school. Frankenstein's face is your canvas. Have fun with it! Give him hair, a squiggly mouth, eyes, or whatever you think looks scary. You may also use yellow candy melts like I did (Or other bright colors) to put bandages, scars, etc. on this tasty beast's face! Let these set in the refrigerator for 15 more minutes and enjoy!
FUN FACT! Did you know that the original Frankenstein character was not actually green? There is speculation that his skin was actually yellow and that it was changed to green later on outside of the original Frankenstein books!
